So here we are in Old London Town. Flew EasyJet from Seville. Arrived on time into Gatwick. Bit of a long trip in from the airport but good to get to Sare’s and settle in for the next 13 days.
This morning Julia headed off to visit a school while I pottered around including doing some washing and replacing the bulb in the bathroom which blew in fairly spectacular fashion. So lucky I’m in the trades these days.
After Julia’s return it was a wander over to Marylebone HIgh Street. So good to be able to wander around feeling that you know the ar4ea well and can be confident about where you’re heading. Did a browse of the local shops and lunch at Patisserie Valerie’s before heading down to Oxford Street. Thought I’d check out jeans in Gp as they had 40% off but it seems all the real men’s sizes are on the bottom shelf so I quickly got tired of walking along bend in half and gave up.
So then Julia headed off to Long Tall Sally’s and I headed off to M&S to pick up some essential supplies – NZ White, Italian and Spanish Reds and British Ales.
Dropped them home before heading to the Wallace Collection which being a 5 – 10 minute walk away classifies as our local museum. An amazing collection of painting furniture, porcelain and armour its based in Hertford house and is the collection of the first four Earls of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace (the illegitimate son of Earl #4). It was bequeathed to the nation by Sir Richards widow in 1897. Its quite a staggering collection. Like the room of Canalettos, cabinets full of Sevres, amazing armour..
Then a wander around the back streets of Marylebone
