A witty yet informative commentary on our travels to England, Scotland, Spain and Italy.
Down by the riverside
The “Roman” Bridge across the Guadalquivir. Original one was Roman but this is now mostly “just” a medieval reconstruction. It’s featured in a couple of episodes of Game of Thrones. There were once eleven mills on the river by Cordoba. This is the Molina de Albolafia Mill. It was first built by the Romans and then remodelled by Abd-al-Rahman. He used it to pump water up to the gardens of the Alcaza. But Queen Isabella didn’t like its noise so had it down. This didn’t do much for the gardens! The present wheel is a reconstruction.La Molina de San Antonio which was built iin the 15th century to produce flour for the Castilian Army especially during the wars against Granada 1482 – 92. Top part is a reconstruction from 2007.And these are some oranges. They are everywhere. In patios in pots. In church courtyards and frontrages. Along the streets. Great smell at times. An we get some rather good orange juice and breakfast.
