The plane to Spain

Yesterday was last day in Scotland.

Checked out of the hotel. Piper Tryst – a great place to stay if you’re ever in Glasgow.

Bags into lock up and off walking. First stop the Cathedral. Dedicated to St Mungo. Also known as St Kentigern. Dedicated around 1136 it survived the Scottish Reformation. Apparently the only mainland Scottish cathedral to survive with its roof on. It looks quite average size as you approach but once inside you become aware of it size, then down into the crypt and its wow! Built on a hillside so it’s on a number of layers. Tomb of St Mungo covered in beautiful tapestry. Photos don’t do justice to stained glass.

From the cathedral it was over to the necropolis. Opposite the Cathedral it full of memorials to the good, the great and rich of Victorian Glasgow. A protestant mercantile version of Recoleta Buenos Aires.

Then into town. Both ways we saw some great buildings. Glasgow College (like a polytechnic) has a huge new building which is stunning inside.

Also many buildings had wonderful paintings on them.

Lunch. Further walk around then back to hotel for 4:00p.m. Taxi to airport. 6:40 flight to Malaga on RyanAir. All straight forward. Taxi had some issues getting to hotel as roads closed for a marathon being run today. Had I known I’d have brought my shoes.

Drink and cake at midnight.
