So fortified with my breakfast of porridge with cream and whisky we headed off on an explore. First stop the dry cleaners. Then we caught the subway out to Kelvin Hill. First up the University and the Hunterian Museum. University has some impressive Victorian NeoGothic buildings and some startlingly ugly 1950s and 60s add-ons. Graduation day for bio-med type students. Museum has wide range of exhibits but especially great collection of Roman artefacts from along the Antonine Wall.

Then over to Kelvingrove which again has a broad mix of collections in a magnificent Victorian edifice. Part of which is closed for refurbishment. Of course. The Dali Christ of St John on the Cross is amazing. The hanging heads also. Organ recital began at 1:00. Added an extra dimension.

Then back into town. A late lunch at the Willow Tearooms which is a replica of the tearooms set up by Kate Cranston run between 1878 and 1917 and mostly decorated by Charlie’s Rennie McIntosh. Of particular interest because Miss Cranston and I have an ancestor in common. Her father ran a hotel in Glasgow. Another branch of the family ran hotels in Edinburgh.

After lunch an amble before heading back to hotel after dark. Dinner in. Check out the Cathedral and other central places tomorrow before flying to Malaga late afternoon.

Note. One reason for coming to Glasgow was to visit the Burrell collection. It closed in October for a three year renovation.
Yay whisky porridge. Shame about the Burrell collection…
