Skipton Castle

About a 15 minute drive from Bolton Abbey is thee town of Skipton and its castle. Its a seriously cool castle. Medieval with a Tudor add on. One of the few medieval castles that has always kept a roof and floors. Built in in the early 12th century it was messed up in a three year siege during the Civil War. But in 1659 Lady Clifford got Cromwell’s permission to repair and restore ( on the condition that she didn’t make it too strong). So its fantastic for getting a real feel of the room organisation (rabbit warrenish) and what it would have been like living their in the Middle Ages (dark, cold and smelly at times I suspect). Needed more time but had to press on to collect my beloved. Ended up 15 minutes late as it was!
